Holy baptism
This is a two-week workout! Complete by 1-26-16
I gave each of the students a copy of "Let the Children Come" by Daniel Erlander. Their workout is to read this entire little booklet and then we will have a little "AR" quiz on Jan. 27th. It's actually a guide for parents and sponsors who are bringing children to baptism but it's also a great resource to learn about the sacrament of Holy Baptism for anyone. So think of it as story time. Parents can read along with students and maybe everyone will learn something in the process.

Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from Evil
Have this workout done by 12-1-15
This is actually two separate things. First, I want you and your parents to talk about the biggest temptations you personally face as you go through jr. high life. List the top 5 in the box on the left. Next, at Thanksgiving time, ask people what they are most thankful for and list at least 5 different things from 5 different people in the box on the right. Remember, there is no confirmation class next Wednesday (day before Thanksgiving) :)

Give us this day our daily bread
Have this workout done by 11.10.15
Many of the people who heard Jesus teach this prayer struggled to have enough to eat each day. In many parts of the world (sometimes even close to home) that still happens today but for the most part, few of us wake up and worry if we will have enough to eat that day.
So this week's workout focuses on the word "us". We do not pray "give ME my daily bread". We pray that all of "US" might have daily bread. You will be doing a little research about a particular organization our church, and many others, support to end hunger.
Go online at www.bread.org. Then, write a couple sentences about one of the causes of hunger and also a few sentences about a program or project where people are working to end hunger. Talk with your parents about ways you can help join the effort for all of us to have daily bread.
HERE IS LUTHER'S EXPLANATION IF THAT HELPS YOUR DISCUSSION:
"What does 'daily bread' mean? Everything included in the necessities and nourishment for our bodies, such as food, drink, clothing, shoes, house, farm, fields, livestock, money, property, an upright spouse, upright children, upright and faithful rulers, good government, good weather, peace health, decency, honor, good friends, faithful neighbors and the like."

Thy Kingdom come - Workout for this week
Have this workout done by 10.20.15
Luther says God's Kingdom comes when the Holy Spirit enables us to believe God's Word and live Godly lives, right now... and in the life to come. Theologians like to say the kingdom is "now but not yet". It is now among us but not yet fulfilled because evil still tries to rob people of LIFE.
So this week's workout is to give an example of when the confirmation youth witnessed God's kingdom. Another way to say it is when they saw "God's work Our Hands" in action. Remember Jesus said the kingdom of God is like a seed that grows, a banquet for undeserving people, a debt that is canceled, the last becoming first and seeing things from a new and gracious perspective. Each youth should type a short paragraph about some event in their own life, the life of someone the know, or an event from the news that demonstrates the coming of God's kingdom. I know this may seem hard but YOU CAN DO IT! If you did not complete last week's workout, it is below so that you can get that finished up as well. Thanks! If you start right away, you won't have to worry about it next Tuesday :)

Hallowed by thy name.
Luther says, "It is true that God's name is holy in itself, but we ask in this prayer that it may also become holy in and among us"
This week's workout is to for youth and parents to discuss the question,
"In what ways do we show God's name is holy 'in and among' us"?
After some discussion have the youth type a 2-3 sentence answer in the comment section below. Make sure they include their name before hitting the submit button. Thanks!
